Winesday: Celebrating Women in Wine and the Essence of Aromas
At our last Winesday event in Women’s Month, we celebrated the craft of remarkable women in the wine industry while indulging in the comforting fragrances of Bophelo Candles. This black women-owned fragrance business graced our evening, evoking sensations that paired harmoniously with the curated wine list. Our event, in collaboration with Vinosity, sought to elevate the experience of attendees by combining exceptional aromas with tasteful wines.
Mahalia Kotjane’s Lievland Liefkoos Rose 2022 set a romantic tone for the evening. This sophisticated dry rosé, derived from a balanced blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre, teased the senses with aromas of pomegranate, red currant, cranberry, and a hint of citrus.
Following this, Kiara Scott’s Brookdale Estate Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2021 enveloped us. Its aromatic profile, intertwined with tropical fruit hints and a touch of vanilla, was truly captivating. The wine’s maturity, owing to its time spent in oak barrels and on the lees, allows for an indulgent taste that promises graceful ageing.
The evening progressed with Natasha Williams’ Lelie van Saron Jade Red Blend 2022. Named after the precious jade gemstone, this blend of Syrah and Petite Syrah from the Upper Hemel & Aarde Valley showcased notes of thyme and lavender, harmoniously complemented by spicy and savoury undertones, perfectly reflecting Natasha’s winemaking philosophy of Purity, Harmony, and Balance.
To conclude, Jolandie Fouché’s Wolf & Woman Old Vine Pinotage 2022 was introduced. Sourced from Swartland, it manifested a pronounced nose of cranberries, blending beautifully with the juiciness of raspberries. Its well-balanced acidity and pronounced fruit flavours offered a delightful closure to the wine tasting journey.
Complementing these exquisite wines, Bophelo Candles uplifted the ambiance, intertwining their soothing fragrances with the wine aromas. It was an evening of celebrating women, wine, and the comforting embrace of aromatic candles. Cheers to more such aromatic and enriching evenings!
